Who we are

ACT-AI Academy is an Erasmus+ Teacher Academy initiative focused on strengthening educators’ competencies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for inclusive and pedagogically sound integration in school education.

The project brings together a transnational consortium of higher education institutions, research centres, teacher training providers, and educational stakeholders across Europe. The partnership combines expertise in:

  • Artificial Intelligence and data science

  • Educational technology

  • Teacher professional development

  • Curriculum design

  • Digital pedagogy and ethics

The Academy operates within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme (Key Action 2 – Partnerships for Excellence: Teacher Academies).


Overarching objectives

The ACT-AI Academy pursues the following strategic objectives:

  1. Strengthen AI literacy among teachers through structured professional development pathways.

  2. Integrate AI pedagogically and ethically into primary and secondary education.

  3. Develop sustainable European teacher networks for AI knowledge exchange.

  4. Promote inclusive, responsible, and human-centred AI use in education.

  5. Support systemic innovation in teacher education programmes.


Purpose and vision

The purpose of ACT-AI Academy is to establish a European competence framework and training ecosystem enabling teachers to:

  • Understand core AI concepts

  • Critically assess AI applications

  • Apply AI tools responsibly in classroom contexts

  • Address ethical, legal, and societal implications

The long-term vision is to foster a generation of educators capable of preparing students for AI-mediated societies, ensuring digital transformation remains pedagogically meaningful and socially responsible.


Outputs

The project delivers structured, evidence-based outputs including:

  • A European AI Competence Framework for Teachers

  • Modular Teacher Learning Programme

  • Open Educational Resources (OER)

  • Learning and Teaching Packages

  • Policy recommendations

  • Dissemination reports and multiplier events

These outputs are designed for scalability and sustainability beyond the project lifecycle.

 


Teacher Learning Programme

The Teacher Learning Programme consists of:

  • Modular AI literacy training

  • Blended learning formats (online and face-to-face)

  • Micro-credential pathways

  • Practice-based implementation activities

  • Peer collaboration and community of practice

The programme integrates:

  • Pedagogical AI applications

  • Ethical and governance dimensions

  • Data literacy and algorithmic understanding

  • Classroom implementation strategies


Learning Teaching Packages

The Learning Teaching Packages provide:

  • Ready-to-use classroom materials

  • Case studies and best practices

  • Lesson plans aligned with European curricula

  • Assessment tools

  • Inclusive teaching strategies

These packages are designed to support teachers in translating AI knowledge into pedagogical practice.
